The Murano has a beautiful Courtyard where we will set up a refreshments bar and provide comfortable places for you to enjoy each others company. We will have maps and info available about recommended places to dine, museums to see, places to visit, interesting things about Tacoma area, and some promotional material for businesses around Pierce County. Drop by and enjoy some relaxation and talk with some locals.

valve cover racerOn Monday evening of opening day July 21, at 6PM we will enjoy the Welcome Party at the Courtyard as well. It is a catered BBQ casual event. There will be a no-host bar and other drinks available. After dinner we will have the Valve Cover Races outdoors next to hospitality. It is scheduled for 8PM. If you are interested in participating, the race guidelines are here.

Events
Autocross
Our Autocross will be at Bremerton MotorSports Park - about 32 miles NorthWest from Tacoma on Thursday. Pre-tech will available at the Murano on Wednesday from 4:00 until 6:00pm and at the track on Thursday morning prior to the driver's meeting. We will be laying out a challenging course on a former airport runway. This is used by several NW clubs for SCCA and other sanctioned autocross events. Professional timing equipment will be used and we anticipate you will have sufficient time available for 3 or 4 runs. Please be aware that there is a toll to be paid for the return trip across the new Tacoma Narrows bridge - Costs depend on vehicle or combination - Information on the various tolls available here.
Concours d'Elegance
Haub Field imageA judging of the finest of Corvairs. It is held at the LeMay on the "Haub Family" show field, a 3.5 acre grass park adjacent to the building. The rules for the Concours event are set forth in the online documents on our Corsa website, corvair.org. These will be put into practice at this organized event which will entail many volunteer judges and organizers to determine the quality of the Corvairs presented. We expect over 70 beautiful cars will be available for inspection - yours as well as the judges!
Econo-Run
Our Econo-Run will be a spectacular tour beginning at the LeMay museum with a Podium start and continue across the Tacoma Narrows northwest toward Henderson Bay, then west along Hwy 302 to enjoy some water views on the way to Allyn. From there we head south thru scenic rural Washington on Hwy 3 to Shelton. Just south of there we pick up famous Hwy 101 as we head SE toward Olympia - Washington's Capital city. We will then head NW thru the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge then thru the area where Joint Base Lewis McChord - our military Army and Air Force HQs are located. We return north up to Tacoma to refuel. The route is approximately 100 miles of touring the beautiful South Puget Sound region. Depending on your pace it will be a 2 to 3 hour cruise.
Model Car Concours d'Elegance
Our Model Car Display and Concours d'Elegance will be at the beautiful Murano Hotel. We have arranged a large in-wall display case in the lounge area of the mezzanine - It will be available during the convention for all to enjoy. Please check in at Registration to have your model(s) entered and put into the display case. Concours Judging is on Thursday at 1:00 PM at the Murano Mezzanine. Awards will be presented at the Banquet on Friday evening.
Road Rally
The Road Rally promises to be a lot of fun as well as a challenge. It will be a Continental type as described in the CORSA Road Rally rules. The route will depart from the Murano Hotel upper parking lot and follow a river valley into the foothills with mountain views if the weather co-operates. Throughout the route answers to questions about local attractions, landmarks, signage, street names, etc. and observation counts will contribute to the scoring. There will be 3 classes: 1] Primary, 2] Touring, and 3] Non-Corvair. Primary class vehicles are restricted to driver and navigator while the other classes may carry additional passengers. Contenders for the Edward N. Cole Award are in the Primary Class and will be first to be released onto the course.
Tech Sessions

We have arranged with Ray Sedman for a tech session on the subject of Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI). It promises to be a very enlightening talk of how we can increase the reliability and efficiency of our Corvair engines.

We have also arranged with Kent Sullivan to present illustrated details about bringing his Canadian 1966 Corsa Turbo Convertible back from the brink. This presentation may give you more ideas on how to complete that "project" you have out back!

Paradise Inn This park is the fifth oldest National park, established March 2, 1899. Elevations range from 1,880 feet at the Carbon River Rain forest to 14,411 feet at the summit of Mt Rainier which is the highest volcano in the Cascade Range. The volcano is surrounded near its peak by several glaciers which give it its iconic frosted cake look as viewed from Tacoma. Dinner Cruise to Tillicum Village
Tillicum VillageCharter coach leaves from Hotel Murano and heads up to Pier 55 in Seattle. Guests are advised to wear layers as the weather can be chilly both on the water and on the island. Gather aboard a large Argosy harbor cruise ship for a narrated cruise thru Elliott Bay and out to Blake Island. Arrive at Tillicum Village and greetings by locals. As you disembark the boat, join other guests for a welcoming mug of steamed clams in broth with a touch of butter and onions - delicious. After seating inside the longhouse, choose from these buffet dishes:
  • Alder Baked Salmon - Savor this centuries-old treat. Our salmon, cooked around alder wood fires on cedar stakes, is unlike anything you have ever tasted. It takes about an hour to bake slowly to perfection, the salmon retains moisture and takes on a wonderful smoky flavor unique to this style of cooking.
  • Northwest Stew - This thick meaty stew of bison, beef and venison is full of flavors married together in a rich veal stock, combined with root vegetables and potatoes for a mouth-watering dish.
  • Wild Grain Harvest Rice - Try this wonderful combination of wild and regular rice, cooked to perfection with onions, garlic and a fragrant vegetable stock.
  • Warm Whole Grain Tillicum Bread - This rich, dark, slightly-sweet bread is made with a hint of molasses – our own private recipe, served warm with butter. So popular, in fact, you can even purchase loaves to take home.
  • Field Greens Salad - Seasonal greens, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, Oregon blue cheese, with stone ground rosemary dressing or raspberry vinaigrette served on the side.
  • Polenta with Wild Mushroom Ragout - A collection of wild Northwest wild mushrooms stewed with white wine and herbs, served over creamy polenta.
  • Fresh Fruit Salad - Assorted melons, grapes, strawberries and pineapple, served with a strawberry honey dipping sauce.
  • Blackberry Crisp - Local blackberries baked with a crispy topping of butter, oats and brown sugar. Served warm topped with whipped cream
  • Coffee and Tea service - is included with your meal.
Entertainment and education with NW Coast Salish-inspired presentation including story-telling and native dances. You'll have some time afterward for exploration on the island. You will return on board the Argosy cruise ship to meet the Charter coach for the trip back to Tacoma. Site link
