Welcome to Springfield Illinois -- and the 2021 CORSA Sanctioned Mini Convention. The information provided on this page should help you plan for the upcoming mini. The mini will be featuring a CORSA Concours d'Elegance and a Road Rally with a visit to the CPF Corvair Musuem. The local tours will be all self-guided with hand out and maps available, possibly even a tour guide if we are lucky. Springfield Illinios is most famous for its ties to Abraham Lincoln. Springfield is home to Lincoln's final resting place, the Lincoln’s tomb, the only home Lincoln owned, his law practice office and the state capitol in which he served before being elected president. Springfield is also on the route of Historic Route 66 and includes numerous locations that were in existence during the Rt 66’s heyday, plus many other sites dedicated to Rt 66. The CPF Corvair Musuem is on that Historic RT 66; how cool is that?
One of our exciting highlighted features this year will be special guest, Mr. William Wynne of FlyCorvair.net who is the authority for converting Corvair engines into aircraft power plants. After all, Corvair engines are aircraft inspired. As part of the Friday road trip, Mr. Wynne and some of his aviator friends will be presenting an Aviation Spectacular event at a nearby airport where Corvair powered airplanes will be on display and; (weather permitting), flight demonstrations will take place. Mr. Wynne will be giving a talk presentation about the history of Corvair flight at the Saturday night banquet. Invite your aviation friends who may find this fun and informative. You don't want to miss out on this. A new feature will be a Corvair-themed Art Show at the hotel for folks who want to bring their original paintings, sketches, renderings, photographs, or three-dimensional artwork pieces made from Corvair parts for others to enjoy. Please bring your own easel or stand for display. We look forward to seeing you there and having a lot of Corvair fun. If you have any questions, contact pcca@corvair.org

News Flash -March 20, 2021 First day of Spring - Covid-19 restrictions may be eased soon as the number of people vaccinated against the virus increses. The Governor of Illionis announced a Phase 4 bridge plan that would allow conventions up to 1,000 attendees. The Mini is expected to be far below that number. Meanwhile, we are still under phase 4 with its restrictions.
COVID- 19 NotesIllinois is currently operating under the Governor’s Phase 4 for recovery. This means meetings are limited to 50 people or 50% of room capacity; multiple groups may meet in the same facility if in different rooms. Outdoor Activities are also limited to 50 people in a group. Again, multiple groups are permitted if separated. Outdoor seated capacity is limited to 20% of seats. Indoor dining is permitted for paries up to 10 people, tables in the eatery must be spearated by a minimum 6 feet. Take out and delivery is also available. Retail is limited to 50% of capacity. Musuems are limited to 25% capacity with guided tours limited to 50 people in a group.
A very important consideration is that the city of Springfield, which is where the host hotel is located, does have a mask ordinance that carries a fine. Masks must be worn in public (indoor) spaces including hotels, stores, restaurant and bars unless actually eating or drinking. The mask must cover the nose and mouth. Failure to wear a mask could lead to a $50 fine.
What does that all this mean for the Mini: Next generation? Tech sessions and other meetings may be limited to 50 people in the room – once the allotted chairs are filled, no more attendees will be permitted. The museum tours should be under the 50 person limit – more than 20 people in a group is probably too many to really enjoy the tour – PCCA’s tour guides are well informed. Masks will need to be worn indoors at the hotel and the museum. The only exception to the mask rule is at the banquet when you are eating and in the hospitality room while eating. Social distancing is required indoors and outdoors.
The Autocross, Concours and Car Display will be divided into smaller groups to maintain the 50 person limit. For the Autocross, that will mean different run time groups. For the Concours and Car Display, we will need to spread the cars out further apart and possibly in two different areas of the parking lot. Concours may need to limit owners on the show field while the judging is taking place. The rally may also start in two or three segments to meet guidelines.
In the unexpected event that the Mini must be cancelled for 2021, PCCA will be refunded all registration fees. If you still want that t-shirt you ordered, we will need to mail it too you, subtracting the cost for the t-shirt from the refund.
