PCCA and the CPF will host the 2nd annual Corvair Museum Classic , aka Corvair Muesum Open House, May 17 thru 19, 2019. Friday night registration, May 17, will be at the host hotel. Dinner at the host hotel is included in your registration fee. There will be several adjoining rooms used to provide amble place for everyone.
Saturday, May 18, is the big day with the Corvair Car show to be held at the Corvair museum. The museum is a short drive from the host hotel. The Corvair show is expected to have six classes following the basic guidelines in the CORSA Car Display rules. Specialty and engineering classes will be combined. The other 5 class are Early Open, Early Closed, Late Open, Late Closed and FC. PCCA will borrow an idea from the Circle City Corvairs show and have color coded ballots and Car Display placards.
Nearby, will be a open Swap meet. Open meaning that both Corvair vendors and general classic car vendors will be allowed to swap. PCCA and CPF hope to draw more interest from the local community as well as provide a swap meet venue that is lacking in the days of the internet quick sell. We also are aware that Corvair collectors also collect other classic cars and automobilia. The swap meet space is one of those few optional, extra cost items for registered participants. Same price as last year, $10 per parking space.
The Corvair Museum will be open ALL day May 18 and 19th. Entry to the Corvair Museum and the adjoining Hall of Fame Museum is included in the registration price. For non-registered visitors, the entrance fee is $12. Both museums are packed with automobiles and related automobilia that apply to each particular marquee. Look around the cars, thru the many display cases lining the walls, the pictures and photographs on the walls, and remember to look up on occasion. There are a few display items hung from the rafters. Expect to spend at least an hour browsing and much longer if specific items catch your interest.
Speaker: Joe Casey, 1969 Corvair Build Room Supervisor is scheduled to speak at the CPF Corvair Museum at 10:30am. Joe was on hand when the last of the Corvairs were assembled including #5997 and #5999 which are on exhibit at the museum.
Mid afternoon, everyone is encouraged to participate in a Tour of Decatur. Drive in you Corvair or your water pumper, or just head to the Banuet dinner location skipping the tour. It is your choice. I do not know where or what sites the tour will encompass, but Decatur has some wonderfully old architecture. It isn't as old as Boston, but it is definitely interesting.
The Awards banquet, also part of that one registration fee covers everything, will be at a location close to the Musuem and Host hotel. The specifics are being worked on at this time to make sure there is plenty of room for everyone to have a great time. Special guest Judy Giganti, Frank Winchell's daughter will provide a few insights at the banquet.
Sunday is the traditional thanks for coming, drive home day. To add to the experience, PCCA and the CPF have worked with yet another Museum for you to enjoy. It is a Coca-Cola museum in the Decatur area close to Interstate 72. It is a mid morning gathering to head to that museum giving plenty of time for a late breakfast. Yes, entry to that musuem is part of the one price registration.
